What other outdoor activity is associated more often with Minnesota than fishing?  Truly, I can't think of any better way to spend time on Minnesota's more than 10,000 lakes.  It's actually closer to 12,000 for you trivia buffs.  Given this vast resource of lakes, it is no surprise that fishing is one of the largest recreational past-times and tourist draws (no, I don't want to hear about the Mall of America).  Last year in Minnesota, $1.58 billion dollars (src: MN-DNR) was spent on the sport fishing industry.

Even though the majority of fishing occurs between mid-May (Walleye opener) and labor day, many adventurous Minnesotans continue to fish into the winter, once the lakes have enough ice on them to support their weight.  We call this activity "Ice Fishing", and although many non-Minnesotan's may scoff at the concept, Ice Fishing remains one of the more enjoyable and social acitivities for the winter months.
